My journey with fitness started at Essex University with a desire to become a PE teacher.  My direction changed whilst at university due to my frustration to find time to exercise.  I already had three children and whilst at university I had another two children; doing a full time degree and looking after five children I found I had no time at all to exercise.  Swimming pool opening times were inconvenient and although I would have loved to visit the gym I was always rushing back and forth trying to juggle my busy life.

Whilst at university I worked at the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre that they run and this got me thinking about exercise for the elderly and how the gym was inappropriate for them.

My limited experience with gyms had always left me thinking that gyms were inappropriate for the larger person. You find so many slim, muscly, fit, lycra-clad people at the gym that the gym can be very off-putting for the larger person who is struggling with their weight and fitness.

So my journey began and I started to think about providing fun, friendly fitness that was affordable and convenient for all types of peoples.  A few friends asked if I would train them to run the three mile race for life and so it began... many women joined our originally small number and I trained them and myself to run the three mile distance needed.  Finding the enjoyment, exhilaration, weight loss and fitness that running brought none of us wanted to stop running and so I started my running classes.

After having my last baby and finishing university I decided that I would like to run the London Marathon.  So putting in to practice all that I had learnt at university I trained myself to run 26 miles.  Through doing all this I realised how much knowledge I had gained at university about the body and it’s easy adaptation to fitness.

My partner taking to his bed with ME and giving up work pushed me to making the decision to start Fun With Fitness.  And I have never looked back.

As the need arises I adjust the classes to meet the needs of those attending and I would like in the future to provide fitness to more children and more larger and obese individuals.

So as of today September 2009 this is my fitness journey and who know where it will take Fun With Fitness in the future.
